Do My Strawberries Look Fat to You?

Attempting Fruits and Veggies

One of my projects is a 40's/50's era rural kitchen based on one shown in Reminisce magazine last year. The kitchen table has fruit and berries, rolled dough and baking implements. This is my first attempt at making green apples (my sliced apples leave a lot to be desired), blueberries and strawberries. I'd appreciate any constructive criticism you professional miniature food makers can offer.

The funniest thing happened! I saw the title "Do My Strawberries Look Fat to You?" and then saw the basket of tomatoes, and thought, "Wow! the strawberries are FAT!" ... and then, figured out these weren't the strawberries you were talking about! :D

I like the mid-sized strawberries. While I am not professional mini food artist, I would suggest adding a lot of translucent clay to the mix (if you are using polymer clay) to create the juicy quality of the strawberries. Can't wait to see the finished kitchen!

I noticed that, too. The first photo I upload ends up the last and I always forget that! Funny. Yes, quite fat strawberries indeed. I did use translucent but then brushed them with pastels which probably killed the sheen. I'm keeping on keeping on in hopes of improvement somehow! Thanks for the tips.

Hi Jody..Not bad for a 1st attempt at halved apples..pretty good as far as I can see! Perhaps a little more translucent, tinged with a teeny tiny bit of green for the "white" of the apple. Great work

Tomatoes are perfect, the straberries aren't that big. In Spain I had straberries as big as apricots. If you don't mind I don't like very much the cross cut at the apples bottom. but I'm not a foodie. Thank you for sharing

I agree with Rosanna about the cross cuts...

You're exactly right about the cross cuts--need to work on that! Thank you for your tips.

Hi Jody, I like your strawberries (and I got my first impression on your blog entry title and the tomato as well lol).

I think size of your strawberries are just fine. I've seen many different size and shape of different kind of strawberries, some are just tiny, some are really big. Last week I had Japanese strawberries, they were huge like a kid's fist!
